** The plan was to meet Friday night at White River CG (4,400'), climb to Camp Schurman (9,500"), rest until Sunday night and start our summit bid around midnight. After a windy/sleepless Saturday night and listening to various route and weather reports we decided to abort the summit trip due to the late season crevasse conditions on the Emmons. The low snow year coupled with a hot June/early July made the conditions on the mountain more like September with several "sketchy" crevasse crossings.
The weather was also considerably worse than forecast with winds at Camp Muir on the other side of the mountain reaching 82 mph on Sunday morning.
The entire trip was still quite enjoyable and an example of how plans must be flexible when dealing with climbing Cascade volcanoes.
